Activate eSIM in India

An eSIM is an acronym for “Embedded Subscriber Identification Module”, which is embedded within your device.

Although eSIM technology is well-known, it has been around for a while. This is because not all smartphones can support this network option. It is also expensive to implement as it requires a specific location on the motherboard.

Apple is among the companies that offer this feature on its iPhones. It’s also available on the most expensive devices from Motorola and Samsung. Google also supports eSIM.

The question is still: How does eSIM technology work? What smartphone is available in India, and at what price? All of this will be covered in today’s article.

What is an eSIM?

Because the embedded SIM technology is soldered or incorporated into the phone’s motherboard, it is also known as an “embedded SIM”. This feature can also be found on smartwatches or drones, as it eliminates the requirement for an additional SIM card slot.

Consumers can activate a cellular plan using this integrated or digital nano SIM. Only Bharti Airtel and Jio provide eSIM support for Android and iOS mobile devices.

What Smartphones Support eSIM India?

The feature is supported by most iPhones, as stated previously. eSIM support can be found on iPhone 6 and higher. This feature is available on Samsung’s Galaxy S20, S21, and Z Flip smartphones. Google also offers the Motorola Razr, Pixel 2, and Pixel 3 Android devices.

The greatest problem is that smartphones must support this technology. A list of names will be displayed on your screen to help you determine if the phone supports this technology.

How do I activate eSIM?

Activating an eSIM or enabling it is easy, but the process varies from operator to operator. Your regular plan number and any applicable fees are not charged by telcos for an eSIM. Jio and Airtel both support eSIM for prepaid and postpaid accounts. Vi’s eSIM option only works with postpaid plans.

Send an SMS with your Airtel username to 121.

Vi customers must send an SMS containing their eSIM registered email address to 199.

Each carrier will send an SMS to the user. Follow the instructions. A QR code is sent to the registered email. This QR code should be scanned. Verify that your email address matches the QR code. Install the appropriate app from your carrier to verify or modify your email address — the Airtel Thanks app or Vi app, or MyJio App.

Different smartphones scan the QR code in different ways.

Samsung Devices

“Settings > Select “Connections”. Click on the “SIM Card Manager”. Click on the “Add Mobile Plan” button > Click “Add using QR Code.”

Apple Devices

Navigate to “Settings”, select “Mobile Data”, and click on “Add Data Plans”.

Step 2: Share eSIM numbers for the eSIM process. Send the SMS to (199) by entering SIMCHG 19 digits eSIMnum>. Within two hours, you will receive an update about eSIM processors.

Step 3: Activate your eSIM.
